Lesley Roy, Artist & Photographer
I was born in Edmonton where I spent my formative years growing up. I have travelled overseas as well as in the United States. My camera was with me wherever I went. It was a wonderful learning experience.
I have been taking pictures from as far back as I can remember. Photography is one of my greatest passions. Much of my photography has focused on insects and other arthropods but I also enjoy landscape, flower, nature and other types of photography. I have also ventured into painting and creating beautiful abstract works using my photos as a starting point.
My photos have been exhibited at the gallery in Morinville as well as a feature during Art Days and the main exhibit at the Morinville Cultural Centre for several months. I was also part of an exhibit called, "The Woods are Lovely, Dark, and Deep" at the Art Gallery of St. Albert. Just over a year ago four of my insect photos began a trip around the province of Alberta with the works of four other talented artists. The travelling exhibition is titled, "Rattled to the Bone" and is a commentary on the beauty found in art of all types.
One of my drawings was chosen by Chocola Tas, a provider of the finest Belgian chocolates, to use in the production of one of their limited release "Masterpieces" and I recently took part in an open exhibition in Swift Current and was delighted to receive an honourable mention by the judge.
I will be having an exhibition at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre in Lethbridge running from July through August. Please come to enjoy the show and all of the other amenities the Centre has to offer.
Some of my other interests include reading, cooking, designing, decorating, and painting.
I look forward to future challenges and hope that my contributions in the realm of art and beyond will help to make the world a more beautiful place for everyone.
